i felt… sort of disconnected all day today. took a nap this afternoon and wanted to keep sleeping for long after my timer went off. i think i’m in hibernation mode. my favorite bits of the day included this photo above (taken to use in a power point presentation i’m doing in class. good background, huh?), a new curtain to cover the clutter on my bookshelves:

i don’t know if they will stay up permanently, but i’ve been wanting some sort of cover like this for a looooong time. i’d prefer to have some sort of a curtain that i can push aside (this one’s just thumbtacked to the inside edge of the shelf) and that will cover the paneling & vents that you can see just to the left of the curtain in the photo above, but for now, this was a surprisingly simple fix and i am quite fond of the way it turned out.
friends invited us out to a laotian restaurant for dinner tonight. i’ve never eaten laotian, but my friend told me that if i liked thai food and curry that i would like it and she was right! i got a vegetarian egg roll to start off with (bigger than the pork eggrolls, noted mr. happy stuff) which had the right kind of bubbly, crispy wrapper and was filled with bean sprouts, super skinny noodles and mushrooms. quite good!
then i ordered pineapple curry for dinner. it was a peanut sauce based curry and in addition to pineapple, also included broccoli, potatoes, onion and tofu (i could have ordered a meat, but i decided to go with the tofu). very, very yummy. it came in these interesting bowls that sort of remind me of a cross between a bean crock and a tandoori oven–but probably for no good reason.
for dessert, we all ordered the mango sticky rice which was very rich and tasty. it was sticky rice cooked with coconut milk and sugar (and some spices, i think) and served with a generous hunk of peeled mango. a great way to end the meal. i’m so glad our friends introduced us to this eatery!
