the golden slippers

late last night as i was biking home, past the creek, i saw some people fishing. this city has some really dedicated fisherpeople. you can see them pretty much any day (or, apparently, night) of the summer on docks, leaning over bridges and sitting beside creeks. i had never seen anyone at this particular spot before, but what caught my eye were a pair of shiny gold pumps slouched beside one of the white plastic five-gallon buckets that they use to haul away their catch. i didn’t catch a glimpse of the woman (or at least, i assume it was a woman who had worn them there) because it was too dark and i was biking by too quickly, but i had to wonder what the rest of her outfit looked like.
