this stuff cracks me up

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

some of you who know me may know how much i enjoy the gallery of regrettable food*. tonight, i found something almost better–a flickr group called the mid-century supper club filled with folks who find these recipes and then do their very best to actually recreate them (although some ingredients may no longer be available). [...]

heavenly yogurt, thy name is siggi’s

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

so… the other day, i was shopping at whole foods (a rare event as of late) and i browsed through their yogurt selection.  first, i saw stonyfield and other relatively usual yogurt brands.  then, i noticed that they carried rachel’s yogurt which i’d seen for the first time when we were in maui.  they have [...]

home canned

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

after listening to the audiobook version of “animal, vegetable, miracle” over christmas travels, i’ve really come to value our nearby local-food store.  they actually deliver once a week to your home and have lots of locally produced, natural meats.  they also have other foods (besides meat)–some local and/or “home made” and others simply organic foods.  [...]

kids music i like

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

so my favorite kids music album of 2006 was, hands down, elizabeth mitchell’s “you are my little bird.” in 2007, i searched for another all-around winning album and the closest i came was “when i get little” by the band dog on fleas. this album has some really catchy tunes that make me happy every [...]

fresh jar

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

i made crepes for lunch today.  the first was ham/harvarti/avocado (delicious) and for dessert, of course, i had to have one with nutella.  and it was time to crack open a brand new jar.  have i mentioned before how much i love the smell of a freshly opened jar of nutella or peanut butter?  mmmmmm……

retreat report

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

although we were only at the retreat for about 24 hours, we both agreed that it was fun and relaxing as always.  it was a bit less structured this year than in years past, but i didn’t mind the free time and mr. happy stuff actually preferred it.  i took a great walk with a [...]

off to retreat!

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

here’s a photo from my archive of this winter.  i like the fringe of icicles around this light post! just a quickie post for the day.  i’m off to my church’s annual winter retreat.  it’s held in a remote location with (generally speaking) very little to no internet or cell phone access (not necessarily a [...]

surprise!

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

i love little (nice) surprises!  the other day, when i got to work, there was an inter-office envelope in my mailbox (not unusual) with a box of chocolates and a thank you card from a co-worker (very unusual!).  what a lovely, (yummy) unexpected gift. today, i discovered another surprise–from you, dear readers!  i recently changed [...]

rearranging the furniture of his face

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

mr. happy stuff has taken to wearing facial hair on a regular basis these past few years. i think it’s because no one at his job cares whether or not he shaves and maneuvering a razor around one’s face isn’t really much fun, so he doesn’t often bother. especially in the winter. sometimes he begins [...]

lunar eclipse

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

[there is supposed to be a photo of the eclipse here.  not sure why it's giving me problems, but i can't seem to get it posted.  i'll work on it more later...] wow. there was a total lunar eclipse tonight and the skies were sooooo clear. and cold. very cold. but it was beautiful. we [...]
