\ncome home sometime.
\nmay as well time it
\nwith the winter rain.
\nfor in summer who cares.
\nwe care nothing for
\nthe soft, velvety chair
\nalongside the reading lamp.
\nnothing for the warm
\ndown pillows
\non our beds.
\nthe hot showers.
\nthe thick robes.
\nthe cocoa.
\nin summer we love
\nless our faithful houses
\nand pledge our allegiance
\nto willow trees
\nand hammocks
\nand full night moons.
\npoor houses.
\nwaiting patiently
\ntill we finally
\nappreciate the
\nroofs that don’t leak,
\nthe doors that don’t squeak,
\nand the furnace
