there’s an idea percolating in my brain.\u00c2\u00a0 it has the potential to brew into a pretty big idea, but knowing my history with big ideas, i think i’d like to start small.\u00c2\u00a0 i won’t go into details here yet (curious?) but it’s all based on drawing.\u00c2\u00a0 and me wishing i was more comfortable drawing things.\u00c2\u00a0 i’m letting the big idea sit on the back burner for awhile, but in the meantime, i’m going to try to simply draw more often.\u00c2\u00a0 the only way to get better at drawing is to practice (or maybe take a class, but i’ll stick with free for now).<\/p>\n

i realized a few weeks back that my days at home with the little happy dude run a bit more smoothly if he has some idea of what’s on the agenda for the day (or the whole weekend).\u00c2\u00a0 this can be actual appointments or playdates, or it can mean chores and errands, or it can be fun activities for us to do together, but no matter what it includes, he can’t read yet, so if he’s going to understand the to-do list, it’s going to need to be pictorial.\u00c2\u00a0 what better incentive?\u00c2\u00a0 my kid isn’t yet at the age to criticize me when my drawings don’t look quite right and, in fact, it’s become a fun game for him to try to guess what i’m drawing as i work on it.<\/p>\n

these picture lists make me smile and every once in awhile, i create a doodle that i’m really proud of.\u00c2\u00a0 almost every list has a challenge that i have to puzzle over for a bit (how do i draw, “get rid of all the cobwebs”?\u00c2\u00a0 how do i illustrate my entire basement in just a few pencil strokes?), but i love that it eliminates my usual roadblock to drawing, the old “what should i draw?” question and just frees me up to just draw.<\/p>\n
