a young friend of mine had her 2nd birthday last week and so i decided to try my hand at making some girl stuff.<\/p>\n

i used this skirt tutorial<\/a> as inspiration, but had to go to this site<\/a> to get a good idea of what measurements to use for a 2 year old.\u00c2\u00a0 (fyi, i made it 11″ long –no hem since i used bias tape–and 36″ of fabric length, gathered into an elastic waistband with an 18″ circumference.\u00c2\u00a0 it fit perfectly.\u00c2\u00a0 whew!)\u00c2\u00a0 while i was at that second website, i saw the tutorial for making super easy leggings<\/a> and had to try it, so those hot pink polka dots were the result of that–so easy, so loved by the recipient!<\/p>\n

and then, i’ve been thinking it would be nice to have a special boy doll for the happy baby (who needs a new nickname at this point because he is no longer a baby.) and so i shopped around on etsy to see if there was anything perfect.\u00c2\u00a0 the ones i liked best cost more than i wanted to pay for a doll that may very well get tossed on the floor and never looked at again, so i gathered together my favorite inspiration photos from different etsy sites and came up with this:<\/p>\n

something about the hinged elbows and knees creeps me out, so when i made my second prototype (which i decided could also be a birthday gift for my young friend) i gave her non-hinged limbs.\u00c2\u00a0 what do you think?<\/p>\n
