songs i find myself singing all the time:<\/p>\n
who’s my pretty baby<\/em><\/a> by elizabeth mitchell and\/or woody guthrie–this one lends itself to all sorts of improvisation like “who’s my stinky baby?” and “who’s my funny baby?” etc. and is a wonderful all-purpose song<\/p>\n the big ship sails on the alley alley oh<\/a><\/em> by kate rusby and i think someone else too (it’s a traditional song) but i can’t remember who–really, really not sure why this song has been going around in my head, but it pops out all the time.<\/p>\n island hop<\/em><\/a> by caspar babypants–because this one starts off with “baby, baby, baby” i’ve been singing it “baby, baby, gaby” just for fun.<\/p>\n favorite books so far:\u00c2\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n everywhere babies<\/em><\/a> by susan meyers and marla frazee\u00e2\u20ac\u201chas beautiful rhythm, meaning and illustrations that portray so many different kinds of families!\u00c2\u00a0 plus, later when attention spans get shorter, we can just read the big words on the page and skip the smaller ones.<\/p>\n haiku baby<\/a> <\/em>by betsy e. snyder\u00e2\u20ac\u201ci bought this one awhile back at frugal muse intending to gift it to someone probably, but the illustrations had me hooked and i decided to keep it.\u00c2\u00a0 i\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m so glad!\u00c2\u00a0 i still love the illustrations and the little haikus on each page are a gentle read for little baby ears.\u00c2\u00a0 it cracks me up that the winter one is about a hippo in the snow.\u00c2\u00a0 do hippos ever experience snow?\u00c2\u00a0 except maybe in a wisconsin zoo?\u00c2\u00a0 my favorite poem is the one called \u00e2\u20ac\u0153flower:\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n \u00e2\u20ac\u0153in tickly-toe grass;<\/p>\n a buttercup offers up<\/p>\n yellow nose kisses\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n snoozers<\/em><\/a> by sandra boynton\u00e2\u20ac\u201cthis one came to us in a box of used books from a friend.\u00c2\u00a0 i just assumed it was a collection of other boynton favorites, but it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not!\u00c2\u00a0 it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s all original stuff and is hilarious.\u00c2\u00a0 each 2-page spread is a different \u00e2\u20ac\u0153chapter\u00e2\u20ac\u009d which might be nice for skipping around later in life and also has wonderful rhythm and humor (but then again, don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t all of her books?\u00c2\u00a0 isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t that why we LOVE them?).<\/p>\n the funny thing is that at work, i generally am not all that fond of rhyming books (for the preschool set i often find them distracting, especially when the meter is off or when the author tries so hard to make the rhyme that it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s difficult to understand what they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re trying to say) and i steer clear of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153gentle reads\u00e2\u20ac\u009d preferring funny ones, but that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s because i\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve always believed that gentle reads are better for \u00e2\u20ac\u0153lap-reading\u00e2\u20ac\u009d than for storytimes.\u00c2\u00a0 it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s nice to finally have the opportunity to appreciate them for their intended purpose!\u00c2\u00a0 the happy baby may not understand the humor in these books yet and he may not appreciate the pictures, but i know that he loves listening to the lilting rhythms and the sound of our voices.\u00c2\u00a0 i love singing and reading to this boy!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" songs i find myself singing all the time: who’s my pretty baby by elizabeth mitchell and\/or woody guthrie–this one lends itself to all sorts of improvisation like “who’s my stinky baby?” and “who’s my funny baby?” etc. and is a … Continue reading
