butterfly ride

yesterday, we tried out a new bike route. we took a few wrong turns, so it ended up being about 32 miles (and i was shocked at how tired i was! but it did take us about 2.5 hours and it was hot so….). i think that the website we got the route from called it something like “oregon dunne” (the two cities it spans between) but i’d like to officially re-name it “the butterfly ride.” i’ve never seen so many butterflies! we kept disturbing giant pockets of them in the grass next to the road. as we passed, we’d churn up small butterfly tornadoes. no fewer than 5 of them actually body-slammed into me as i rode! (sadly, i think that i ran over one or two as well–but it was unavoidable! they were everywhere!) i wonder if it was just a seasonal thing and we happened to be out on just the right day, or if that ride is always butterflyful? anyway, of all the bugs that there could be too many of on a ride, this one is definitely my favorite.

That sounds like an absolutely beautiful ride and sounds like the sight would be worth the tired body! Not to mention that may be a once in a life time butterfly ride…

When we were in Yosemite a few years ago, we encounted a “ladybug blizzard”. The air was filled with them, like snow. If it had been any other insect, it would have been kind of creepifying, but since it was ladybugs, it was cool!
